CFA crews attended a fire at the Broadford RSL club at 2am on Thursday morning.
The alarm was raised by residents of the town, about 70km north of Melbourne, after the blaze broke out in a weatherboard structure that was fully alight when crews arrived.
The club housed irreplaceable memorabilia, including photographs and war medals.
Forty-five firefighters fought the intense blaze, which took around 30 minutes to contain. The damage bill is estimated at $300,000 but many lost items were priceless.
