CFA has launched a firefighter's recipe book that offers budding chefs information and tips on fire safety. The colourful book is an initiative of Firefighter Bryan Suckling and the team at Bendigo Fire Station.

The heart of Bendigo was filled with delectable smells during the launch, which included a cook-off between teams from CFA, VICSES, Victoria Police, Department of Sustainability and Environment, and Rural Ambulance Victoria.

Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron kicked off proceedings before each competitor was given ingredients and a recipe, to be judged after 30 minutes. Chef Robert Scott taste-tested each offering and the ABC's Jonathon Ridnell kept the crowd informed.

Chefs from CFA and SES won in a tie having cooked some delicious chicken rissoles.

The firefighter's recipe book is another way for CFA to reach the community with educational messages. Contributions for the recipe book arrived from all areas "which was an absolutely fantastic response," Bryan said.

As well as easy to follow recipes, the book contains messages to keep your home ‘fire safe' and to make sure you are ‘fire ready'.

All proceeds from the sale of the books will be donated to Relay For Life and Bendigo Health Care Group.

Recipe books cost $10 each plus postage.
