Volunteer helps injured B-double driver

CFA firefighters were confronted by a horrific scene on the Princes Freeway on Friday evening (16 May) after a B-double careered through barriers and burst into flames near Lara.

Passing Werribee volunteer Matthew Cullen was travelling towards Geelong when he realised the B-double had crashed into trees on the opposite side of the freeway.

"The driver had managed to get out of the cab but he was badly burned," he said. "I was able to pull him away from the fire and administer some basic first aid until the ambos arrived. It was one of the worst incidents I've been at."
