Julie Boord - Healthy for Life

CORP Health congratulates Julie Boord, Area Finance Officer (Brigades) in Region 16 & 17, for achieving and sustaining her fitness goals through the Healthy for Life program.

An interview with Julie Boord

What motivated you to change your lifestyle?
While I was at the first North East fires I participated in health checks and found that I was suffering from extreme high blood pressure. A doctor put me on a high dose of blood pressure tables so I’m still alive - I would not be if it wasn’t for the health check.

Having Nicole and Vanessa from CORP Health come to the Region to teach us and give us fitness programs has given me motivation to improve my health.


What has been your biggest lifestyle change?
Lower blood pressure.

What benefits does this have on your everyday health and wellbeing?
Fewer migraines. (I used to have a migraine about every 10 days.)

How did you achieve this goal?
The will to live and listening to what Nicole and Vanessa have to say. Mind you, the team at Region 16 encourages each other to look after ourselves.

How has the Health and Fitness program benefited you?
The Health and Fitness program is a great way for CFA to support its staff. It offers guidance, a free health check and support that could be lacking on the busy home front. As a staff member, I believe this program not only helps your health but also helps the mind.

What would you say to others considering joining this program?
I would recommend this program to all. I really don’t understand why people are not involved.

The girls that come to the Regions and put us through our paces are fun and supportive, friendly and knowledgeable. They don’t feed you rubbish; what they talk to you about is fact.

Having your weight, body mass, pulse, blood pressure and hand strength taken and recorded on a chart helps you keep yourself in check.

Julie is a great friend & Captain of Stawell Rural CFA. She is greatly admired & respected by all who know her. After seeing the wonderful results Julie achieved on the Health & Fitness Program, I am sure she will encourage & inspire us all to undertake this program. Congratulations & well done Julie.
