Mannerim Fire 3 March 2008

The Bellarine Group in Region 7 swung into action on Monday 3 March after reports of a fire on Banks Road in Mannerim.

The fire was burning in a south easterly direction and ten CFA tankers and Helitak 347 were called in to try to stop the fire spreading into a nearby pine plantation.

A Mobile Control Vehicle was also sent to the scene to help co-ordinate the firefight.

A Geelong Strike Team was put on standby but local crews managed to bring the fire under control by early evening.

The fire provided an opportunity for the area's bulk water carriers to be put into action because there was no mains water supply in the vicinity of the fire.

Incident Controller Alistair Drayton said the water carriers greatly helped in bringing the incident to a successful conclusion.

The fire was contained to approximately 5 hectares.
