CORP Health congratulates Chris Wallace from Geelong Fire Station for achieving and sustaining his fitness goals through the Healthy for Life program.
An interview with Chris Wallace
1. What motivated you to change your lifestyle?
I think today a lot of younger blokes have joined the job with a standard of fitness that was required to get in, this in some ways puts the pressure on you to maintain your level of fitness.
Motivation can become difficult at times and especially as age increases.
2. What has been your biggest lifestyle change?
Initially, giving up smoking. Then moving to Barwon Heads.
3. What benefits does this have on your every day health and wellbeing?
Giving up smoking is fairly obvious. Moving to Barwon Heads has given us a great lifestyle, a magic place to bring up our kids a great place to walk, run, fish and relax.
4. How did you achieve this goal?
Cold turkey with smoking and after living in Melbourne for 25 years it wasn’t very hard to bail out and move down to the coast.
5. How has the Health and Fitness programme benefited you?
As I said at the start in can be hard to keep motivated, and this is where the programme helps, by giving you a variety of training techniques to suit what you are looking for. Also education in a number of health issues that unfortunately most blokes seem to avoid.
6. What would you say to others that were considering joining the programme?
Give it a go, the girls will be gentle and they always show an interest on how your training is going. Although the job is not always full on when it is busy it’s nice to try to keep up with the younger blokes.
Chris received a voucher for The Athlete's Foot worth $200 .
