Tribute to lost CFA lives

CFA's annual Memorial Service was held last Sunday 4 May at St Mary's of the Angels Basilica in Geelong. The service was dedicated to the 64 CFA members who have lost their lives in the line of duty since the organisation's formation in 1944.

This year’s Memorial Service marked the 10th year since five CFA volunteers from the Geelong West brigade died at Linton, and the 25th anniversary of the Ash Wednesday bushfires in which 14 CFA firefighters died while battling fires across Victoria.

CFA's Barwon Corangamite Area General Manager Paul Stacchino said it was an honour to have the service held in the city of Geelong.

“Hundreds of CFA members and their families filled the Yarra St Church to honour and remember those who gave their lives,” Paul said.

The Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Bob Cameron, attended the service and laid a wreath on behalf of the Victorian Government.
