- Ceremony at Royal Melbourne Showgrounds
The Victorian Urban Fire Brigades' Association and Victorian Rural Fire Brigades Association officially merged this month. They have formed a single, unified body: Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV).
The CFA Volunteer Charter was also reaffirmed at the merger ceremony. Premier John Brumby, Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron, CFA Chairman Kerry Murphy and VFBV President Gary Lyttle re-signed the charter.
The Charter is the first of its type in Australia. It outlines volunteer rights and CFA’s and government’s obligations to CFA volunteers.
“The Charter ensures volunteers can play an active role in planning for CFA’s future,” VFBV CEO Andrew Ford said.
VFBV represents CFA volunteers at CFA Board, management and government levels.
“VFBV is committed to two-way communication with volunteers. We want to strengthen Regional Councils and make sure volunteers’ expertise is called on when CFA makes decisions,” Andrew said.
