CFA was invited to attend this year's State Rescue Challenge, hosted by VICSES. The event was held over the weekend of 6 December at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. With help from the Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARR), CFA and VICSES were put through their paces in a multitude of car rescue scenarios, with time limits on all of them. The cars were crushed to resemble real-life entrapment situations.
Werribee brigade’s Championship Team flew the CFA flag in the challenge, competing with seven teams from VICSES. Despite being the only CFA team, Weribee was victorious, placing first overall as well as taking out best technical team, best team leader and best medic. Frankston SES finished second overall, with Gisborne SES third.
