Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron has announced the outcome of the second funding round under the latest Community Safety Emergency Support Program (CSESP).
This funding round received a total of 184 applications from CFA brigades and groups. This round included additional government funding of $1.333 million, specifically for the acquisition of Ultra Light Tankers - the next generation slip-on tanker.
Forty-four brigades and groups were successful in receiving funding to acquire the following:
- two crew cabin heavy tankers with refurbished backs
- three new medium tankers with refurbished backs
- six light tankers
- 13 field command vehicles
- two big fill appliances
- staging area resources
- a catering trailer
- 16 Ultra Light Tankers

The total value of the 44 projects was $4.78 million with CSESP contributing $2.642 million, CFA $1.196 million and the individual brigades / groups $941,593.
A key outcome under the program for CFA has been the replacement of over 160 brigade-owned tankers that are more than 20 years old, the provision of 68 field command vehicles for individual brigades and groups to assist brigade operations and fire ground management, as well as 30 specialist vehicles and 65 equipment projects.
Since its inception in 2000, the CSESP Program has provided over $12 million, which, together with CFA’s contribution of $8.7m and brigade contributions of $8.3m, has seen 357 projects valued in excess of $29m approved.
It is likely that the next funding round will be announced early to mid-2009.
When the next funding round is announced CFA will again write to all brigades and groups, with guidelines and application forms and the closing date for applications.
