David Gorman, a career firefighter based at Cranbourne, has issued a call to CFA members to take part in the Triathlon Team Shield, which is part of the Gatorade Triathlon series, in February 2009.
Team members each take on one leg of the triathlon: a 500 metre swim, 20 kilometre bike ride and five kilometre run.
It costs $100 a team to enter and members must be from the same work location. The race will be held at the Elwood foreshore in Melbourne on Sunday 15 February 2009.
“The winning team will receive a trophy to keep at their location and also the Triathlon Team Shield to hold for a year, coupled with the bragging rights against all other CFA locations,” said David. “There will be other spot prizes on the day.”
David said CFA’s Sports and Recreation Association (SRA) and Corp Health were supporting the team triathlon effort.
“Corp Health will be supplying the awards and food for the after-race presentations. This will be held close by in Elwood Park, subject to confirmation, after all competitors have finished the course. So stick around for some fresh fruit, bikkies and a chat."
David has also offered to assist teams with accommodation in Melbourne.
“If you can get a team together to compete but your location is some distance away, why not travel to Melbourne on the Saturday and stay at one of the many CFA fire stations close by,” he said.
Teams requiring accommodation - be it a spare bed, camp bed or swag and ear plugs in a meeting room - should contact David and he will endeavour to clear it with the Officer-in-Charge and the station.
As this event attracts a lot of public media and interest, all teams are encouraged to wear any kind of apparel with any form of CFA badges or patches during the race, to help promote CFA.
