IGA stores have raised an impressive $523,800 for local organisations through the ‘Community Chest’ initiative, whereby a percentage of all sales from specially marked products is given back to the local community.
The bulk of this donation will be given to CFA. Other recipients include Reach and The Asthma Foundation.
The beauty of IGA’s Community Chest is that the money is collected by local stores, with local customers having input into which beneficiaries need the extra support.
“If you have shopped at your local IGA in the last 12 months then on behalf of IGA and all the local charities and organisations involved, thank you - this generous donation is possible because of your support,” said IGA’s Victorian State General Manager, Mark Laidlaw.
CFA CEO, Neil Bibby said, “IGA’s Community Chest donation will help many brigades make a real difference in their community. This support means brigades can purchase additional equipment and improve member training. The benefits are significant, particularly in drought and financially affected areas where every little bit makes such a difference to the whole community.”
“CFA is truly grateful for IGA’s ongoing contribution to improving community service right across Victoria,” Neil said.
