CFA Chief Executive Officer Neil Bibby has informed the Board that he will not be seeking to renew his current employment contract which expires later this year.
The Board in a formal motion accepted Neil’s decision and noted the significant contribution he has made to CFA, its members and the Victorian community during his seven years as CFA Chief Executive Officer, and previously, for three years, as Director Community Safety.
During his period as Chief Executive Officer, Neil has overseen major change in the way CFA provides emergency services to the Victorian community.
Many of these changes were outcomes of the Linton Coronial Inquiry (2000 / 2001), which resulted in CFA establishing the Safer Firefighting Project in 2002 to identify, prioritise and implement the proposed actions arising from the Inquiry’s 55 recommendations.
Neil has always advocated that the safety of CFA members is paramount and he has been a leader in developing a ‘Safety First’ culture within CFA.
The introduction of the accredited Minimum Skills Training Program, to ensure all firefighters possess the required skills for their respective roles and brigade risk profile was fundamental to the development of this new culture.
Neil is passionate about community safety and has championed the need for communities to be better informed and involved in fire prevention and preparedness.
The introduction of new systems, including technology to improve business efficiency and productivity and to better serve CFA’s members, has also been a hallmark of Neil’s term in office.
He has been a leader in the commissioning and use of research and innovation, including the use of aircraft in fire suppression, as a means of reducing the risk of fire for Victorians.
The Board wishes Neil all the best in his future endeavours.
The Board has engaged an executive search company to find a replacement Chief Executive Officer and it is planned that this search will be completed in the next few months.
