CFA is sorry to say goodbye for a second time to a larger than life character, Greg Allen, as he retires from his role as Dangerous Goods Officer with Community Safety.
Having left previously in 1990, due to serious back problems, we were pleased to welcome Greg back to work two years later. Greg started with CFA as a casual Special Service Fireman – over 24 years ago.
He left behind his job as a smooth talking used car and insurance salesman to work full time in the Portable Fire Appliance section (now called FEM) as Supervisor of the Bendigo Depot, where he spent five years.
Following his recovery from back operations, Greg joined Community Safety (Risk Management) as a Fire Protection/DG officer. He was also heavily involved in the development and design of TRAX, a Community Infrastructure work management system. For the past ten years, Greg has held the position of Dangerous Goods Officer.
Not the quiet type, Greg’s presence will be missed in Community Safety, especially for his quizmaster skills at morning coffee and his stories about his days in the RAAF. He’ll be spending his retirement travelling around Australia in his caravan with his partner, as well as doing some consultancy work, but in general “doing as little as I possibly can”.
All Greg's friends at CFA wish him all the very best with this new and exciting chapter in his life.
