Message from Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron extended this message to all CFA members on Tuesday 10 February:

Yesterday, the Governor-General of Australia, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, rang me to express her support for all of your efforts at this tragic time.

The Governor-General wished to thank the many thousands of firefighters, emergency service workers, police and other volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past few days to protect others. The fire-fighting effort has been extraordinary and has prevented an even greater tragedy from occurring. So many lives and houses have been saved, and fires contained at critical times, because of your great efforts.

Away from the fire front, many more volunteers and staff have provided significant and valuable support in areas such as communications, and establishing the emergency relief centres.

The Governor-General expressed her admiration for the work you have done and the work you are continuing to do. There is still much more work to do, but I firmly believe that Victoria has the best emergency services in the country and am proud to pass on - and echo - the Governor-General's support, admiration and thoughts.

I would ask that you convey this message to your members/staff.

Thank you

Bob Cameron MP

Minister for Police & Emergency Services
