The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner Wildfire Asset Identification and Consequence Evaluation Project (Wildfire Project) recently won the 2007 Victorian Spatial Excellence Award in the ‘People and Community’ category
The fundamental importance of the partnership with CFA, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) was acknowledged in accepting the award and the award reflects the success of the entire team and the collaborative relationship between key stakeholders. Without the support and contribution of CFA, DSE and MAV, the development of the Wildfire Products would not have achieved this level of excellence.
The Victorian Spatial Excellence Awards celebrate the achievements of Victoria’s best spatial information enterprises and professionals and showcase the finest projects from the Victorian Spatial Industry. The People and Community Award recognises those companies, products or programs that make a collective difference to national and local issues and communities via grassroots initiatives, educational programmes, services or tools that permit the widespread adoption, use, understanding and access to spatially-derived products or services.
In judging the Wildfire Project, the panel said, “The Wildfire Project demonstrates coordination across key emergency service organisations and local government. The project has built up significant goodwill between the key agencies responsible for wildfire management in Victoria.”
