CFA Environment grants

Closing date has been extended to 5.00pm Friday 18 January 2008

The closing date for applications for the CFA Environment Grants for 2007-2008 has been extended to 18 January 2008. Small grants are being offered to help support environmental improvement projects by CFA Brigades. Projects may be eligible for grants of up to $500. Individual brigades can apply or one or more brigades may apply as a group.

This year we are looking for projects that will help slow down climate change and its impacts. Brigades can slow down climate change by:

  • Reducing energy use. Consider using energy-saving devices including timers, sensor lights, energy efficient light bulbs or solar panels.
  • Working with other community groups such as Landcare to plant trees to absorb greenhouse gases. Consider how you can design your plantings to minimise wildfire risks, and help others to do the same. Use carbon calculators to estimate how much greenhouse gas your trees will absorb.

Other projects that will be considered for funding
:
  • Waste reduction; for example, recycling of paper, glass, plastic, waste oil and batteries, use of compost/worm systems and ‘green’ cleaners.
  • Saving water. Consider water efficient taps and nozzles and water recycling.
  • Environmental communication, education or training activities.
