Profile - Peter Boicovitis

Peter BoicovitisName: Peter Boicovitis (Nickname Boico)

Position title: Fire Service Communications Controller

Area: Headquarters Directorate but based at Vicfire Ballarat with the responsibilities of Vicfire Melbourne as well.

When did you join CFA? As a volunteer in 1990 with Hoppers Crossing and I'm now just up the road with Truganina. I’ve also been in the Senior running team, coached the Junior running team, been in the marching team and been brigade and regional instructor to name just a few other positions. I’ve been fulltime since 2003.

Favourite movie and why: Twister – good story line and action packed. I have a soft spot for Helen Hunt.

Most exciting moment? Having to deliver my daughter Natalie: just priceless. My wife Toula was in a small hospital and four women went into labour at the same time. A midwife was with me monitoring my wife with a doctor running between the room but I was really in the hot spot. I remember talking to my wife and telling her to breath properly – not very good advice at that moment. If looks could kill, I got them all but her looks were also priceless.

Your favourite journey? Driving up to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts with the family for a four week holiday recently, staying in NSW on the way through.

I wish I was still a child because . . . I wouldn’t have to worry about bills, washing, cleaning and cooking.

The best thing about living in . . . Hoppers Crossing is that my wife and I moved in after getting married 20 years ago when it was a new area. It’s very clean and we have nice neighbours with all amenities close by. It’s still the same today but the area is growing rapidly.

If I win Lotto I will . . . pay off all outstanding debts, ensure the kids and immediate family are taken care of and give some winnings to some charities, then go on holidays all the time.

If I had to choose another career . . . I would be an ambulance officer as I’m always willing to help someone . . . it’s a great feeling of satisfaction

My life’s motto is . . . love your family, work hard, live well as life is just too short!
