A new interactive CFA fire helicopter will be landing at schools and community events in the Yarra Area to help teach children about fire safety.

Emergency Services Parliamentary Secretary Danielle Green launched Helitak 13 during a visit to Warrandyte Fire Station earlier this month.

“Helitak 13 is modelled on the helicopters that are used during bushfires by both CFA and DSE,” Ms Green said.

The helicopter is battery operated, simulates the sound of a helicopter flying and has flashing lights and a siren.

“Helitak 13 teaches children about the use of aircraft in fire suppression and was developed by Yarra Area’s Community Safety staff,” Ms Green said.

“A fun, interactive activity such as this helicopter will capture a child’s imagination and assists in delivering important fire safety information.”

Ms Green also launched the Can we get to you in an emergency? brochure which has tips and information about how Victorians can work with CFA to prepare for an emergency.

“The brochure provides advice to Victorians on how they can ensure CFA members and vehicles can access their property in the case of an emergency,” Ms Green said.

The Warrandyte Fire Brigade has 50 volunteers who responded to 221 incidents last year.

Ms Green said the brigade did a fantastic job helping the local community during emergencies.

“The Brumby Government is proud of the role all CFA members play in the community and is committed to ensuring they are well resourced,” Ms Green said.
