There are no Wallys with water in Echuca thanks to the installation of a water re-use system at the brigades Ira O’Neill Track, Victoria Park.

Echuca Urban Fire Brigade will recycle water collected from the surface of the training track. It will be stored in recently installed tanks and will be used for training and competition purposes.

The new system will save between 400,000 to 600,000 litres of town water per annum.

The $73,000 project was brought to fruition when the brigade received $50,000 from the Australian Government’s Community Water Grants program.

“It still wouldn’t have been possible without additional financial contribution from our brigade and the outstanding volunteer labour provided by brigade members,” retired Captain Ron Hooper said.

The project will allow brigades in the area to adequately prepare and train to enhance firefighting skills. This will lead to more efficient fireground practices in real life situations and in developing the skills of junior brigade members.

The track will become a preferred venue for fire brigade competitions and training exercises as a result of the new water re-use system.
