The Prostate Assessment Season

Be a man campaign logoIn May of 2006 at 47 years of age, Pasquale Grech, husband to Colleen and father of Malina, Alicia, Annemarie and Jasmine, was diagnosed with advanced Prostate Cancer. He had been employed as a PAD operator at Fiskville for over 14 years and continued to work for a period of time, then went on sick leave to receive treatment. Pas passed away on the morning of 18th December 2007.

As many of you are aware, the CFA community, in particular the Fiskville community and friends of CFA provided emotional and spiritual support to Pas and the family throughout his illness. During this time Pas and Colleen were very aware that many other people are in the same situation as themselves every year.

The family, together with the Fiskville community are very keen to remind people of the importance of being assessed for Prostate Cancer. Early detection is vital and this early detection may save a father, son, brother, or a loved one, from becoming one of the 2700 men each year in Australia who die from Prostate Cancer.

Last week, 1 May, was the start of a new month long season:

“The PAS”

The Prostate Assessment Season

A season designed to remember a good friend, work colleague and good bloke and celebrate his life. A season to also remind men within the organisation of the importance of talking with your doctor and seeking advice on the need for a Prostate Assessment.

Information about Prostate Cancer can be found at www.esvhealthwatch.vic.gov.au.

You can also download a document from the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia entitled Be a Man – talk to your doctor about Prostate Cancer by clicking here. Have a read, make an appointment during “The PAS”.

It may save your life or the life of a loved one!
