CFA, in conjunction with other emergency services and the minerals sector, has issued the Emergency management in the mineral resources sector brochure.
It was released at a function in Bendigo on August 7. The launch was attended by CFA Deputy Chief Officer Geoff Conway, State Emergency Response Officer Rod Collins, Mineral Councils of Australia – Victorian Division Executive Director Chris Fraser, and Worksafe Chief Mines Inspector Tim Gossling (pictured below left to right).
Geoff said the brochure was developed as part of CFA’s Minerals and Energy Sector project and was produced in cooperation with Victoria Police, Worksafe and the Minerals Council of Australia.
“It’s been produced to build awareness among mine managers and operators of Victoria’s emergency management arrangements and the capabilities of emergency services to deal with emergencies in the minerals sector,” Geoff said.
The brochure covers:
- the legislative obligations of emergency service organisations and the mineral resources industry;
- emergency management arrangement;
- incident management arrangement;
- the importance of emergency management planning;
- how to train and conduct exercises to ensure preparation; and
- inter-agency relationships.
