Women and firefighting information session

Earlier this month, CFA held an information morning for women interested in learning more about the role of a career firefighter.

Forty-seven women watched a presentation on CFA and the recruitment process, and were given an opportunity to participate in a trial beep test. They also tried some recruitment challenge activities, which proved an eye-opener for those who had never lifted a 70kg dummy or dragged a fully-charged hose.

Acting Deputy Chief Officer Gregg Paterson and Fire Officer Josey Sensi delivered the session at Fiskville. Fire Officers Mark Kennedy and Jayson Hirt, and Firefighters Felixa Krajewski, Emma Conway and Amanda Lake were also part of the day.

CFA has also been holding general recruitment information sessions in rural Victoria to attract more candidates from the country regions. Recent sessions on station in Morwell and Warrnambool were well attended.

Applications for the 2009 Recruit course will close on Friday 21 November 2008.
