The awards are a joint initiative of Victoria’s three fire agencies - CFA, MFB and DSE. They recognise the community’s efforts in reducing the incidence and impact of fire.

CFA excelled in this year’s awards. The Information Unit project, a joint CFA and DSE initiative, won the RACV Insurance Award for Excellence.

CFA Yarra Area won two awards - the Community Award and the RACV Insurance Fire Safety Grant. CFA was also a finalist in the Education Award and the Fire Services Award.

Overall, CFA was involved in five projects:

  • Sprinkler and alarm system training simulator - Ferntree Gully Fire Brigade
  • Firefighting with recycled water – CFA and MFB
  • Victorian Burns Prevention Partnership – MFB, CFA, The Royal Children’s Hospital and The Alfred
  • Wildfire tourism engagement project – CFA, DSE, Surf Coast Shire, Ecotide P/L
  • Information unit project – CFA, DSE

This year’s Special Incentive Grant went to Derrinallum P12 College. The grant will help Year 10 students produce a DVD on home fire safety awareness for their local community.

Guests at the event included Minister for Police and Emergency Services Bob Cameron, Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin, DSE Secretary Peter Harris and CFA CEO Neil Bibby.

I'd like to add that not only was the Wildfire Tourism Engagement Project (WTEP lead by Barwon-Corangamite Area CFA) a finalist in the hotly contested Fire Services category, it was the WINNER against 6 other strong entries.
The WTEP project comprises a range of new resources such as the 'Holiday Wildfire Safety and You' DVD/CD, Community Fireguard for Small Business Accommodation Providers, and specialised Emergency Management Planning manuals for Caravan Parks and Small Business Accommodation Providers.
