According to Swan Hill's Captain Rob Whately, the brigade had done some community fundraising during the 2008 Senior State Championships held in Swan Hill earlier this year. Investing in this equipment was the brigade’s way of giving something back to the community.

The digital camera will allow hospital staff to send photos to burn specialists in Melbourne for their consult. The intraosseous drill is used to provide quick pain relief and effective fluid replacement for burn victims, when intravenous access is difficult.
