Words by Fire Officer David Brown, Wodonga brigade
Wodonga brigade members and their counterparts from Station 209 in New South Wales met recently by the Murray River for a combined drill.
Wodonga Pumper drew water from the Murray River and delivered water to New South Wales Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Pumper 209. Pumper 209 relay pumped into Wodonga Pumper Tanker, which then delivered the water back into the Murray River via Wodonga’s ground monitor. Sixteen lengths of hose and multiple adaptors later, crews packed up and enjoyed a BBQ tea to wrap up the training session.
The combined drill was hailed a great success by crews from both sides of the border.
“We were able to identify communications and equipment compatibility issues in past exercises and put processes in place to rectify them for this drill and future operational calls,” said Fire Officer David Brown. This drill was the second in a series of combined drills designed to bring border resources closer together.
