Churchill Fellowshops 2009

by Mandy Burton, CFA Professional Development Officer

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust was established in 1965 to honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill. Each year the Trust awards travelling fellowships of around $25,000 to conduct research overseas in a field not readily available in Australia.

There is no limit to the subject of the proposed research project, however the research must produce a clear benefit for Australia. Fellowships are awarded on merit and a key factor is the applicant’s ability and desire to share their findings with the Australian community.

This year the Trust is offering a sponsored fellowship – the 2005 Lord Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal Churchill Fellowship – to specifically study ways to combat and reduce the impact of bushfires.

Fellowships are open to Australian citizens over the age of 18. Applications open 1 November 2008 and close on 27 February 2009, and awards are announced in early July.
