Buxton Rural Fire Brigade, together with Buxton Progress Association and Buxton Reserve Committee, held a BBQ and Fun Day for the local community just before Christmas.
The day saw Santa arriving on a vintage Harley Davidson motorbike and sidecar with Santa’s helper, Edden Morrison, to hand out lollies and small showbags of CFA literature. There were also horse rides, a jumping castle, face painting, children's games, as well as some farm animals and a baby wombat on display. These attractions were donated to the BBQ Committee.
The BBQ Committee also received a small community grant from our local Murrindindi Shire councillor for this event. Thanks to that support, we were able to put the day on at a cost of under $100 for each of the groups involved.
In recognition of the support our organisations have received from the community during the year, everything, including food and soft drinks, was provided free to the public.
This is only the second time the event was held. It was regarded as a huge success, both in uniting the community and as a public relation exercise for the organisations involved.
