CFA has been selected as a finalist in the upcoming Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) Leadership in the Public Sector Awards 2008, in the Health & Safe Workplaces award category.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on Monday 16 February 2009 at Parliament House. CFA CEO Neil Bibby, Acting Director Human Resources Paul Garvey, Health and Wellbeing Officer Peter Langridge and Manager OHS Jeff Green will attend the ceremony.
CFA's nomination was based around the organisation's successful health and wellbeing program for its members. Launched in 2004, the program initially targeted all operational employees and was later extended to corporate staff and, where practical, volunteers from integrated fire stations.
Over recent years this focus has been expanded to include areas of health and wellbeing that covere both potential risks from firefighting as well as the general health of our members. CFA's commitment to member health and wellbeing led to the the engagement of a Health and Wellbeing Officer and the launch of a volunteer program in February 2006. The volunteer health and wellbeing initiative received a significant boost later that year with funding from the Victorian Government’s Valuing Volunteers programs.
