Dandenong and Hallam brigades were called to a factory fire in Dandenong South, just after 7am today. Crews arrived on-scene to find the interior of a large recycling plant well alight and emitting a large plume of smoke.

The blaze had started in a section of the building where recyclable products were stored before they were sorted. Workers had evacuated the building as soon as the fire started.

Dandenong Platform and Frankston Teleboom supported the ground crews and Frankston Breathing Apparatus (BA) Support was utilised to refill the large volume of BA cylinders being used. The fire was contained to the contents of the recently-constructed building and only caused minor damage to the structure.

Dandenong Fire Officer Don Wilke was the initial Officer-in-Charge and upon arrival he requested that four pumpers respond to the scene. Noble Park and Narre Warren brigades provided additional support. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
