Flyer for the Warburton community event to commemorate the 1939 Black Friday fires

The 1939 Black Friday fires will be remembered this weekend at a community event in Warburton, organised with the help of local historians Ellena Biggs and Val Smith of the Upper Yarra Historical Society.

Survivors from the 1939 fires will speak at an evening event this Saturday 10 January at St Mary's Hall, Warburton. The evening, described as "a night of film, history, reflection and song", will also feature old Forestry Commission films.

A commemoration service will be held on Sunday 11 January at St Mary's Church, Warburton. CFA Chief Officer Russell Rees will speak at the service.

The event will also feature a range of information displays, until 18 January. CFA will have a bushfire education display at the Saturday and Sunday events, an initiative of Community Safety staff in Region 13.

For more information on the event see the flyer attached, or contact Gail Pinchbeck on 5933 2152 or Ellena Biggs on 5966 5384.
