2009 Rural Fire Brigade Championships

Governor David de Kretser addresses the crowd
Victorian Governor David de Kretser, Victorian Premier John Brumby and Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron were in attendance at the opening of the 2009 Rural Fire Brigade Championships in Swan Hill last weekend.

Sixty-five senior and 64 junior teams from 45 brigades around Victoria competed in the championships, showcasing a range of firefighting skills and disciplines. Nearly 1,000 competitors took part in the event in Swan Hill.

“CFA crews across Victoria did such a tremendous job protecting people and property during the black Saturday fires, these championships will offer volunteers a great boost to morale and opportunity to promote their skills,” Mr Brumby said.

“Events like this give members of the CFA a chance to start the recovery process and thank those who fought on the fire front.”

More reports and official results will follow as they come through.
