CFA Gets Waste Wise

by Darlene Pentland, Green Office Project Manager

CFA Headquarters’ improved waste management practices have been recognised with a Silver Waste Wise Certificate awarded by the Metropolitan Waste Management Group.

CFA received the Silver Waste Wise award for implementing a range of actions to reduce waste and minimise the environmental impacts of business activities.

Some of the actions recognised by Waste Wise include:

  • the launch of a recycling program for many materials (such as paper, cardboard, batteries, printer cartridges, mobile phones etc)
  • the implementation of ECO-purchasing practices.
The award also recognises CFA’s ongoing commitment to staff awareness and engagement, and behaviour change strategies delivered via the Green Office program.

This is not the first time CFA has received an award recognising effective waste management practices. CFA Championships have been certified ‘Waste Wise’ events since 2008. Championship committees aim to reduce waste going to landfill by promoting ‘reduce and recycle’ practices to competitors, spectators and suppliers.

CFA’s participation in the Waste Wise Business Efficiency program was made possible through the funding assistance of the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.

Waste Wise is Sustainability Victoria's leading community and organisational environmental change program. CFA has joined a growing number of schools, local governments, businesses and other organisations that recognise the importance of becoming more environmentally sustainable.
