Fundraiser for Canberra Firefighter David Balfour
Those involved in the David Balfour memorial run have applauded the level of support offered by CFA members.
Four career firefighters made the commitment to be a part of the running team that will travel Melbourne to Canberra. Qualified Firefighters Tim Lancaster (Cranbourne), Daniel Tawse (Dandenong) and Mick Jones (Frankston), and Leading Firefighter Simon Hrabe (Eltham) make up the quartet travelling to the Capital.
Three firefighters from CFA, along with six from MFB and 22 from the ACT Fire Brigade, are taking part in the run. All are being supported along the way by local brigades, which are sending out appliances to support the runners as they travel through various CFA fire districts and regions.
A vehicle convoy accompanied the runners to kick off the event earlier this week providing a spectacle for onlookers. Patterson River Leading Firefighter James Wong has been on hand to provide us with updates and images.
The extremely successful, ongoing fundraising effort throughout Victoria continues, displaying the camaraderie so familiar within CFA ranks.
Earlier this week Celia Balfour spoke to The Canberra Times about the tribute to her late firefighter husband. Coverage of the memorial run also featured on ABC news during the week.
