CFA has established the 2009 Fires Taskforce to manage issues associated with the 2009 fires and the subsequent Royal Commission. Deputy Chief Officer Greg Esnouf will act in the position of Taskforce Coordinator until a permanent appointment is made, which is expected in about two weeks.
Fire Flyer will provide regular updates on the progress of the Royal Commission.
The Royal Commission is chaired by the Hon. Bernard Teague AO, supported by Commissioners Ron McLeod AM and Susan Pascoe AM. The Commission’s Terms of Reference include the examination of the causes and circumstances, as well as the preparation, planning and response to the bushfires that burned in various parts of Victoria in late January and February 2009. Community consultations for fire-affected communities begin today - 18 March 2009 - and will conclude on 8 April 2009.
