Phase two of the Fire Ready Victoria (FRV) campaign started this week with two new commercials running on television stations across the state. Accompanying them are radio commercials running extensively on metro and regional stations.
Phase two is the preparation stage of the FRV campaign. Consequently, the television and radio commercials encourage people to develop their Bushfire Safety Plan.
Key aims of the television commercials are to address issues identified in CFA research that:
- a large number of people still expect CFA or DSE to turn up (by either truck or air) to save their property during a fire; and
- people assume fires will be campaign style fires so they expect to have plenty of warning.
Each radio commercial focuses on different issues. One aims to highlight the risks of driving in areas where there are fires. The other builds awareness of the causes of accidental ignition of wildfire.
You can watch the commercials below or listen to one of the radio ads and access a transcript at http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/residents/living/index.htm for more information about developing a bushfire survival plan.
