Last year the CFA Board approved the transition to a single service award for all CFA members. The One Service Award will replace the current system of providing separate awards to staff and volunteers, both urban and rural.
The One Service Award is a consistent and equitable approach to the delivery of service awards. It also reinforces the ‘One CFA’ ethos.
“The One Service Award system allows CFA to start recognising our members’ contributions and services much earlier, at five years instead of the original twelve,” said CFA CEO Neil Bibby. “This recognises the contribution of our valued people and may encourage their retention.”
Under the new system, CFA members who have completed five years of service will receive a signed certificate, while those who have completed ten years will receive a medal and lapel badge. Members who have served 15 years will receive a ribbon bar showing years of service to attach to their medal, and a new ribbon bar every five years of service after that.
All registered CFA members whose next service milestone falls after 13 October 2008 will be eligible to receive the new awards. The awards are not retrospective.
As part of the transition, members who are eligible for the 12 years of service award under the old system will instead receive the new 10 years of service award provided in the new system.
Members with existing service awards are advised to wear them until their next anniversary date, after which the new service award will replace the existing one, to be worn in the same position.
The contract to produce the new Service Awards was signed on 13 October 2008, and the roll out of the awards is anticipated to commence late December 2008. CFA and VFBV, together with tender winner Cash’s Australia P/L, gathered to celebrate signing the contract and to lend their support to this initiative.
