A grass and scrub fire broke out at a creek reserve around Pindara Boulevard in Langwarrin yesterday afternoon, at around 5.30pm. CFA crews were supported by two aerial water bombers: Helitack 331 - a 1400 litre belly tank Bell helicopter (based at Moorabbin Airport) and Elvis - the 9000 litre Erickson Air Crane (based at Essendon Airport).

Multiple CFA tankers and pumpers responded from surrounding areas to form strike teams to battle the fire and protect homes and assets along the creek reserve. Council graders were used to forge an access track along the creek to allow tankers to gain control of smouldering scrub. As night time approached, CFA lighting units were assisted by lighting crews from VICSES to provide light for firefighters who were still working. Wildlife Rescue members managed to capture several fire-affected possums to receive treatment before returning them to the wild.

Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

LOve your action photos, as good as anything I have seen in Fire Press around the world. But don't just mention the aerial bombers, give the NAMES OF BRIGADES ATTENDING.It is of interest to enthusiasts, and gives a a morale boost to those brigades attending.
