CFA participates in 2009 Formula 1 ING Australian Grand Prix

The 2009 Formula 1 ING Australian Grand Prix was held last Sunday 29 March.

Prior to the race, Victoria's devastating bushfires were remembered, as drivers rode a lap of the Albert Park track in CFA trucks.

Twenty Formula 1 Drivers stood on the side of vehicles from fire affected areas such as Kinglake, Neerim and Yea as they were ferried past the appreciative crowds at Albert Park.

The Driver's Lap and other on-track activities, previewed last week on Fire Flyer, were a huge success.

CFA Operations Manager, Peter Baker, said the volunteers in attendance had a great time.

"It was a great honor for CFA to take part in such a prestigious international event."

"The brigade members had a very enjoyable day with the Formula 1 Drivers, and it was good that we were able to provide them with this memorable experience."

What a fantastic way for the volunteers to be publically acknowledged. I think the F1 Drivers and Fans should feel honoured to have taken part in this lap. As an interstate TV viewer I certainly felt priveledged to have seen it.
